Been doing some updates, soon to post a troll page on blt (which means I get to go through the thread. again. yay)

Quick question, I see a page on crabby created in recent changes but not posted anywhere. Can somebody go over that/edit that and give me a clue as to where to put it/ put it somewhere themselves? It looks like a hate page right now and I'm not sure what to do with it but leave it floating.

I didn't realize that had been brought up already. I just posted something on the wiki discussions today as it had been floating a couple days and I figured no one knew it was out there. Other than the creator, of course.

Why are we putting so much effort toward memorializing trolls? I can think of many trolls who could merit their own wiki entry, but why give them more attention. It seems like it would just invite more trolls, just so they could end up on our Hall of Shame.

Stripcreator is a site for making comics. Let's talk about that. Maybe that will give newbs a sense of the history and positive culture aspects of the site.

Well these are just the famous trolls. And I wasn't around long enough to know the Golden Age stories. Somebody will have to clue me in.

I'm not anti-troll pages, but it is a tiny bit unsettling that the documented history of Stripcreator seems to be a long list of trolls. I assumed with nearly 400,000 comics there'd be a bit more going on.

I think the Ode to BLT thread should go in famous threads. I was re-reading some of it yesterday and that thread is a gold mine of GREAT poems, thoughtfull discussion and retarded bullshit.

Well why not also include pages for some of Stripcreators more illustrious comic creators, characters, interesting people, general rouges, interesting amigos, that sort of thing. No offence but isn't glorifying trolls just as bad as feeding them with posts in the first place? I know there have been exceptions, and sometimes its great to have that comedic foil whom you know is going to react brilliantly to our whims, but to grant them the honour of a wiki page for their sins seems excessive, Id prefer that honour to go to the Kaufmans, ObiJos, Boorite's, UnknownErics, mmyerses, umfumdisis, choads, chikas, niteowls (christ Im digging myself a hole here, but if you're not mentioned its more down to the fact Ive made my point than any kind of favouritism, belive me), bipeds, kramers, dougans, spanklings, big evil people etc, of this place,  who have for me at least, made this place a fun place to hang out these past few years.

In just making your list you've exposed why we shouldn't have pages dedicated to the general users on this site. Everyone will want a page and a certain amount of favoritism has to be applied, considering that there are a large number of users on this site and any one of them can make an argument as to why they should be on the wiki. Featuring the trolls is, as I said before, like posting "Don't do what Johnny Don't does." I see it as a resource for new users to see that what they're doing isn't new, they will be exposed for the what they are, and their behavior isn't going to be taken very well by the users here.

I understand the argument that it is glorifying them, but glorifying them for a reason. To make an example out of them.

By having pages dedicated to the people who have won comic contests and linking users who have made other contributions (gabe starting the IAACG thread), I think the regular users are getting their due credit on the wiki.

Generally bad trolls have the unfortunate circumstances of having their personal information found and exploited when trolling this site. So. That may be a deterrent.

As for 'famous' users, I'd have to coduct interviews with every person put into the history that was deemed appropriate by... who? Who says who gets into the wiki and who doesn't? Should I just make a donor bio page and document everybody? It'd take a while, but it's doable.

Plus I'm not the only one who can edit this. I bet some of you have something interesting to add.

Instead of doing separate pages for users, how about doing a vital info list like the one we used to have at woodenbadger.com?  (I just checked--it seems to be gone.)  It was a good idea but after awhile it never got updated.

Legend, oh legend, the third wheel legend...always in the way.

I was thinking of making a Hall of Fame, starting with Kaufman as the most obvious first inductee. I saw that he's listed as an Inside Joke, and I expanded on his entry since he is much more than that, but still think we might want to pay homage to the legends such as him.

Another entry might be Boinky33 who made 3000 comics then was banned. It's an epic rise and fall.

And what is the yardstick in which you will be measuring these legends?

Well, with Kaufman, he's won more CC's than anyone else, made 2500 comics, appears on more Favorites than anyone--any one of the three could qualify for some sort of recognition, but together, they make him a legend. I should go on about him, as he was also a positive influence on the site and many users, and his contributions in the early years through 2005 helped build and define the Stripcreator community.

With Boinky, he was prolific and certainly a large part of the community (no pun intended), but he ended up getting banned over a feud with Chubby (who was banned a month later). The uproar over Boinky's banning and protests to allow him back was a major controversy.

Who else? How about Brad? That one is a given.

ObiJo/Mandingo--won the first CC, and is second in overall wins after Kaufman. Didn't reveal himself as an alias for 2 years.

So what's the yardstick?

--Unique accomplishments

--Major contributions

--Historical significance

I don't know. Stuff like that. Hold me up to that yardstick, and I don't measure up, since I'm just a guy who has made a lot of comics over the years, but I can't say I've done anything truly remarkable. Like any wiki, it will evolve over time, but for now, I'd keep it to the pioneers and users who have stood out for some unique reason.

Not disagreeing, just offering perspective.

 With all the uproar over ratings, how long will it be before there's an uproar over who is included and who isn't included?

Furthermore, with the fact that it is publicly editable, who is to say someone won't take advantage of this to write on a legend's page simply because they don't like them? As has already been the case with the floating crabby page.

I'd like to avoid jealousy and controversy that may shut down access to the wiki or shut down the wiki completely.

Well, there are a few things worth considering:

- Just because a page is created for users, doesn't mean it's accessible from anywhere. That crabby page was clearly trollish in nature but it wasn't linked from any of the pages that I saw, so I don't care too much. Probably eventually I'd go through and clean out pages that aren't linked to anywhere.

- If someone edits pages in an annoying way, that's what the wiki history is for. We can revert those edits.

- If it's going to be a real problem, it's not a big deal to switch the wiki so that only users with accounts can edit it. Right now it's wide open, but we'll see how that goes.

- It's also likely that if the wiki develops as it has been, I'll move it to the Stripcreator server where I'll have more control over security, etc.

Also if there's a need for a more fleshed-out user information database, I could add some fields to the SC user database. I've never bothered because I figured people didn't want to be bothered entering their location, etc, etc.

Perhaps to cut down on jealosy or controversy, after the initial round of groundbreaking users, we have an annual vote like pro sports halls of fame. That way, it's open for nomination and vote using pre-defined criteria.

Well, it is a wiki. If somebody wants to have a page, they can make one about themselves. If somebody wants to make a page about somebody else, they can. If somebody doesn't want a page about themselves, they can delete it.

Just don't anybody start a Kaenesh page. Yeesh!
