Would anyone on here be interested in participating in a CD swap?

The general idea is that we'd put people into groups of five, exchange mailing addresses and then each person would make a mix CD of their favorite music and then mail out copies to the four other people in their group.

Meaning that you'd receive four mix CDs from other Stripcreator members.

I'm not committed to the idea but I'm interested to hear if anyone's interested in participating. I know we have some music fans on here.

Actually, that's a good point you raise. Overseas shipping can be a lot of money for some people, and four overseas trades would put a strain on me right now. I certainly wouldn't mind one or two, at least. Just be aware that I may have to send them seperately from each other as opposed to just in one big trip to the post office if you get put with me and you're not in continental North America.

Different is good. There wouldn't be much point to this if we all just end up receiving a bunch of stuff we already have on our hard disks or have heard 900 times on the radio. Anyone who trades with me had better be prepared to hear some seriously messed up shit. Well not really; but rest assured there will be a few head-scratchers in there.

I'd like to take part, but I think it would be good to put people who are close geographically in a group together (eg. Kajun and I).

Also, what format should they be in? In mp3 you get roughly 10 hours per disk, but with normal CD audio 1 hour is about the limit.

Some of you may have an idea of what to expect from my contribution. I will try to both live up to and shatter these expectations. :p

I think we're talking old-fashioned mix cds here, with care and attention lavished on the choice of tracks, rather than "Hey! Here's 600Mb of Nickelback!".

I was thinking that when we set it up we could group people according to their preference. If we have enough people who want to exchange MP3 cds, we could have a group for that.

I don't think I have the time to compile an MP3 CD. Most of my stuff is still on the original CDs. Plus, with so much space, one could get really lazy about the choices. I'd be more interested in people picking 12 - 15 really great songs.

I'm in, and I also agree with it being a cd of about 12-15 songs.

I don't really mind about shipping costs, the more addresses of regulars over-seas that I get, the better. I plan on showing up uninvited to a lot of people's houses next year.

I'm in, if we can make a slight adjustment.

Instead of going through all the bother and expense and giving-out-mailing-addresses-ness of actually mailng CDs, why don't we just set up some happy FTP space somewhere and have exchangers upload MP3s to it for exchange? If you wanted to do groups of 5, that would be fine, too.

Anyone with the free RealPlayer and a CD-ROM can change music CDs into MP3s. Then, if they like the MP3s and want an audio CD, they can burn them onto their own CDs or minidiscs or whatever medium they like.

We can still keep the group-of-5 format, or do it however you want. We'd just need to find some FTP space. However, my CD-writer doesn't work and I don't give out my name or address on principle, so if you keep it the way it is you're missing out on all my wonderful music collection that no one but me can usually tolerate.
