A friend of mine, a 50-year-old Army vet who voted for Bush, suggested a McCain/Edwards ticket. I said I'd vote for that. He replied that almost everyone he knew said they'd vote for that. McCain is president I might not always agree with, but at least I could respect him. And Edwards's populism (in word if not deed) appeals deeply to me as a native of Huey P. Long's Louisiana.

I thought for sure that Ashcroft was one of Bush's yes-men. I am pretty thoroughly disgusted with Powell, since he pretty much sat back while the government he is a part of ran roughshod over the doctrine that he himself authored. But I still saw him as somewhat moderate to the Bush admin's psychotic radicalism.
