Funny, I don't remember being black myself or seeing anyone who was black when we had to get our food from the shelter. I'm sure at their sister shelter in downtown St. Louis there were black people, but there certainly weren't any at the one where I lived.

Poor doesn't "almost always" equal black. And there aren't any white people holding the black people down. I seriously don't know where you guys are getting this shit from. Black people have the option of getting jobs just like the rest of us. And if I can live comfortably in a 2 bedroom apartment making just barely over minimum wage while my boyfriend makes about the same amount, then they can too. It's more of an issue of how many kids they have and if they take on the necessary responsibility to feed them (or, of course whether they work at all). We wouldn't have been poor if my mother didn't decide to go all baby factory and pop my brothers and I out so close together -- then decide to be a stay at home mom as well. But that was the problem -- my mother's laziness. And you have to look at all people, regardless of their skin tone, to figure out why things aren't working for them. I guarantee the problem doesn't lie in what color they are.

I could also wear the poor badge but I put that away long ago. I agree that there is a problem with the number of poor white people too but I still say that chocking up black peoples disadvantages to laziness is dumb. It's a rejection of logic that is, well..., lazy. I have a good job and I've made a good life for myself but I know that, to an indeterminate degree, I can thank my whiteness.

How could you possibly believe that black people are treated so badly that they can't even get a job? I mean even the most minor of jobs will put food on the table and a place to live. The problem is laziness/pride. I guess they're all too good to work at McDonalds. And if, supposedly, they aren't getting jobs because of their race, couldn't they just get a lawyer, sue the company, and make even more money out of the deal since there's all these discrimination acts to protect their blackness?

i also should have made it clear that i don't think theres any INHERENT difference regarding the propensity to be racist among whites and blacks. they both have the tendency and in roughly the same degree. HOWEVER, because of both resentment by blacks towards whites and because the media has a double standard allowing blacks to be racist against whites, but not vice versa, black people in America as a whole tend to be more racist than white people in America as a whole

mandingo has the right idea. Racism is wrong. Decrying racism is a good thing so long as you aren't propagating a negative stereotype and claiming racism against you is the problem.

I grew up as the only white kid in a black neighborhood. It was a poor neighborhood, yes, but my neighbors worked minimum wage jobs, sometimes two jobs, and they were able to afford their two to three bedroom homes and keep food on the table. There were people who sold drugs in my neighborhood, and they were the only ones who complained about racism, especially when the police were involved. I don't care if you're white, black, or pink with purple polka dots; if you deal drugs, shoot at the cops, and fight them when they catch you, you have no fucking right to cry racism when they beat the shit out of you.

Racism today is nothing but hypocritical bullshit. White supremacists talk about purity of their race when they're all a bunch of inbred morons, and on the other hand the black racists make themselves out to be "thugz" and "gangstas" and wave their guns all around, then get bitchy when they get profiled as violent criminals.

Rascists need to come down off their crosses, use the wood to build a bridge, andget the fuck over it.

This I can agree with. Honkey is funny, nigger is "omg bad!11" Black people are a lot more openly racist than white people are anymore, probably because white people are scared of the aforementioned gun waving gangsta fools which seem to represent blacks nowadays. But a lot of white people are racist to themselves or laugh about it with their white friends.

However, the colorful and tangy examples you used were special because it wasn't a belief(racism) being pasted to a race, it was a factual physical condition being described. There is no media double standard in that the standards for racism are not equal. If Martin Lawrence calls a white guy a cracker there is little historic stigma tied to that insult. You see, whites have very little to be offended by. It's water off a ducks back. Nigger is an descriptor that has genuine malice attached to it and has been a very nasty word that is just recently losing it's teeth. The same can be said for Kike or Chink. Racial insults cary with them a lot of baggage. Whites have never carried their own bags.

I think I've been around bit. I grew up in the inner city of Milwaukee (the only hyper-segregated city in the US), I've lived in LA, I've toured Europe and I now live in NYC. In my experience, Blacks are less likely to pre-judge based on race. White folks are FAR more likely to have formed an opinion based on negative cultural stereotypes propagated by themselves.

No, now you're using race again. NO midgets will make it into the NBA. I'll be more specific and say no one that is reeeaally old can run fast. But yes, there is a possibility that some Asians are dumb and some white guys are very good at basketball. What I'm trying to get across is that a racial generalization is much different than saying "you're three feet tall with a reach of a foot and a half, so you're never going to be in the NBA." Unless you actually want me to consider the possibility of say a midget buying his way onto a team. Then yeah you're right.
