I tend to avoid the hack-em-slash-em horror movies and go more for the kinds featuring what H. P. Lovecraft has called cosmic horror. Among horror movies I've seen in recent enough memory, these stand out more than others:

That started out cool and I thought you might have some interesting tastes. Weird, horror movies I've never heard of or something, but it turns out your list is just filled with queer emo horror. That's a shame.

I think it is mainly the supernaturally induced bleeding and levitation. I suppose it is not an especially horrific movie, given that God is supposed to behind everything, and it has a happy ending. If there's any scariness to it, it is in the mystery of what's going on. Of course, if you know what stigmata means, the title removes most of the mystery from the movie. Mainly, it is just an entertaining movie with elements of horror movies in it.

I was irritated by the movie's ad campaign. Specifically, Mr Announcer Voice saying "It is the ultimate incarnation of EVIL!"

I almost choked on my tea when I heard that, having just seen it a week prior. I did watch it because I was expecting a horror movie and it was kind of jarring to not get one. Like the time my brother rented Terminal Velocity and I thought it was a Van Damme movie, but it turned out to be Charlie Sheen.

I thought that was Terminal Stupidity.

Thankfully, I missed the ad campaign. Things are sometimes hyped up by ignoramuses who know nothing about them, or who don't care whether what they're saying is true. I think I found Stigmata at the library after it was out of the theaters.

I can understand why that would be a horror film. The scariest I ever saw was the one in which a lovely Christina Ricci grew up to become the loathsome Rosie O'Donnell. I shiver in horror just thinking about that awful transmogrification. I take heart in knowing it was all make believe and in my faith that real life can't be so cruel and horrible.

Is there a lot of teased hair coming out of there?

While browsing through DVDs of old movies at a dollar store today, I came across one with Biped's avatar on the cover. It is William Castle's House on Haunted Hill. Judging by the description, I think I have seen it parodied on the Simpsons and in one of the Scary Movies I saw a bit of. The other movie on the DVD, Horror Hotel, strikes me as more interesting, because I find witches more interesting than haunted houses. I plan to getting around to watching both eventually.

I also picked up a DVD of The Last Man on Earth and Last Woman on Earth. The last man on earth has to fight zombies, whereas the last woman on earth is involved in a love triangle between two men who want her. It's not fair. If I were the last man on earth, I would want to be with beautiful women, not zombies. Fortunately, my IMDB search turned up a more recent movie that has rectified this injustice, The Last Man on Planet Earth.
