Not really. I listen to emo and I am not depressed. Emo is basically an offshoot of punk. It is underground. It does involve deep lyrics, but hardly makes us depressed :-) unless you are an overemotional sissy. Check out Saves The Day (ranks up there in my favs), The Juliana Theory, Dashboard Confessional (he is kind of a whiny baby) to name a couple
If you are interested in how ska met punk; Reel Big Fish, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Hippos, Less Than Jake are a few
Interested in JUST punk you say? Pennywise, Rancid, Anti-Flag, Dropkick Murphys, Lars Frederickson and The Bastards, The Clash, The Get-Up Kids, The Ataris to name a few
Hardcore? Thursday (another of my favs), Boy Sets Fire (Political Hardcore...i like :-) ) are a couple of the better ones.
Something COMPLETELY different? Me First and The Gimme Gimmes (pronounced Gih-mee Gih-mees) They are a punk band that takes old songs i.e- Who Put the Bop in The Bop Shu Bop, Blowin In The Wind, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, etc. and rock them out.
For those of you who didnt wanna hear about all this: Fuck you, I dont care.
