The Iron Giant (also not a cartoon)
Do you have your own individual definition of a cartoon? A cartoon is animated graphic art, and the Iron Giant was animated graphic art.
No, the Iron Giant is an animated film. A cartoon is cartoony. Cartoons have no sense of reality to them and use cartoony animation. Cartoon characters can fly through walls, have anvils dropped on their head, pull holes from their pockets and get hit the ass in every way imaginable.
Loonie Tunes, Fleischer (Betty Boop ect.), Mickey Mouse, Ren and Stimpy, and most Hanna Barberra (Yogi Bear yes, Johnny Quest not so much). There are very few modern animated shows that are really cartoons.
So then the Three Stooges were non-animated cartoons?
Pretty much. A lot of the same theory aplies to slapstick humour as cartoons. Cartoons just have the ability to take it past the limits that real life constrains us too.
