If you've ever been around hyena you know how fast they can eat flesh of off someone who is still standing. Being smart isn't really a matter there (other than the wisdom "don't wander off in Africa" being useful).

But we can cut down the predator population in an area, and then license the correct amount of hunting which should maintain equilibrium, in that sense, yes, I think we're well equipped, and if we can take care of extra deer in North America, we can take care of run-away wheat crops if we had to.

I don't give people less credit for being able to take care of themselves than they deserve, and it's a pretty common argument to say "oh you have no compassion" when you talk about treating groups of people like adults instead of vegetables hooked up to life support.

If children are raised to never have to take care of themselves, they will never have a reason to learn how to. If you exhibit "tough love", you're doing the right thing at the cost of not being able to jerk off over what a super-cool dad you are.

That's the same kind of attitude I have about humanity, I'm so fucking sorry you're going to have to goddamn work for money or freedom or whatever it is you wish you could have handed to you on a silver platter. Boo fucking hoo.

I also am not under the illusion that a lot people are not selfish and basically evil, and exploit the system to the ill of the whole (case in point in another thread, the Saddam regime). You can get a good parallel for this by talking to ANY social case worker or former case worker with half a brain who picks up on the number of deadbeats just milking and double-timing the system. When you reach out to help people, except to have a swarm of self-serving deadbeat knocking down your door to rape your offerings and befoul your purposes.

No that doesn't mean I think all charity or welfare is bad, but I'm not a fucking idiot. There are people double-timing welfare and other government services making more than their case workers, making more than maybe the average American. Talk to me about compassion, MikeyG. Are you a child? Are you in college? Have you ever walked in a bad part of a city or have you just seen them in movies? Have you ever seen someone get shot or do you just talk about people dying in the streets to make your arguments sound good?

Tell me what it's like to have your arab friends call you crying because they can't walk down the street without feeling ashamed of their culture, that when they apply for jobs they will just try to pass for black or Mexican, and then tell me I should be compassionate for the cause that launced an attack on America, compassion for the mentality that America deserves to be the target of a culture of hate, and compassion for the idea that an entire religion should be befouled to make a political point.

Talk to me about compassion, tell me just what it is I'm supposed to open up my heart to. Maybe what a German ambassador feels is the most correct course of action against a sworn enemy of the U.S. is, with whom he is doing back-door business deals? How genetic modification is hurting the feelings of non-genetically modified foods? How it hurts the feelings of Iraqis for us to have to come in and depose their dictator, by basically saying they didn't have what it takes to do it themselves?

Since my descendency isn't due completely to nature, and partly due to humanity's ability to choose it's own mates, yes I have been genetically modified from what nature would intend.
