Do Cats Have Cooties?
A fifth-grader from North Dakota won a trip to the Native American Science Fair in Albuquerque, New Mexico, for proving that cat slobber is cleaner than dog drool. Lacey Lafromboise analyzed the saliva of her two pet cats, Jasum and Daisy, and her two dogs, Copper and Lady, using an incubator and a microscope from Minot State University. Unfortunately for Copper and Lady, the two canines carried way more bacteria in their saliva than the cats did, perhaps because dogs spend more time outside. Lacey, who thought up the brilliant idea while her dog was licking her face, won top honors at local and regional science fairs. Now that's something to salivate over.
