There are now posting shortcuts. I lifted the idea and code from Metafilter. I modified it a little bit, but that's no reason to go out throwing a huge party in my honor over this new feature like you guys usually do.

While you're posting a message the following shortcuts are available.

ctrl-shift-a to build a link
ctrl-shift-i to add an image
ctrl-shift-b to bold
ctrl-shift-t to italicize

They're listed on the left hand side of the posting form so you can easily remember them. Another thing worth mentioning is that with the link, bold and italicize macros, if you select some text and THEN hit the macro, it will apply the desired codes to the selected text.

Could be a browser incompatibility or it could be that some other program you're running has stolen away control of the ctrl-shift-a and ctrl-shift-i keys. ICQ has a tendency to set up macros, for instance.

Damn. I had this as an idea a while back, but never mentioned it figuring everyone would berate me for being so fucking lazy. And I actually only wanted a shortcut for posting comics. Any chance that's coming down the pipe?

What kind of shortcut are you looking for? I've thought of a couple of possibilities:

1. Display a list of your comics at the bottom of the posting form (much like the pull-down on your homepages) and allow you to select a comic to attach.

This would be nice and convenient, but it would also slow things down a fair amount, I think. And for people with huge comic lists who post a lot (nudge nudge) it can add a substantial amount of data to every posting form page.

2. Fix the comic tag so that it uses the entire URL of the comic instead of just the ID number. So that all you have to do is cut and paste the URL rather than getting ID number off of the end of the URL.

Then I could add a ctrl-shift-c macro to allow you to enter comic URLs easily and it would automatically put comic tags around them.

Personally I'm leaning towards the second option.

I like only having to use the comic number instead of the whole URL. I vote for keeping it that way. Actually, you could probably have it both ways if you wanted.

For the macro, I'd prefer that it make [comic][/comic] tags the same way ctrl-shift-b makes [b][/b] tags. But to be honest, I haven't been using the macros that much.

The idea I had in mind was pretty much what evil_d just said. Normally I copy the comic number from the address bar as soon as the comic is finished, and then type in the comics tags and then paste the number between them. Having a ctrl-shift shortcut to make the tags for me would save a step and be the easiest fix I can think of.
