Unsettling fact of the day: ants suck a viscous sweet fluid called honeydew out of the butts of aphids...(Aphids are small green insects that like to suck fliud from green plants... you've probobly eaten a lot of these bugs if you eat leafy green things like lettuce...) Ants like this honeydew so much, they often defend colonies of aphids from predators (like lady-bugs). |
