I'm sure I'm not alone in my outrage over the fact that Jessica Simpson has not received an Oscar nomination for her moving performance in The Dukes of Hazzard. How could the academy have overlooked this soulful and nuanced portrayal of a rural working woman struggling against chauvinism and injustice in small-town America?
And what about King Kong? This rising star expresses a range that rises well above the usual grunting and chest-beating of the muscle-bound action hero. Truely Kong has break-out potential worthy of a romantic comedy, historical drama, or just about any other genre if only he is given the chance. But will he receive his due at the Oscars? Pfeh. They'd rather heap praises on some silly Western.
