Thanks, both of you. I did write it myself. I was expecting some snide remarks after writing that, but thankfully people are being gracious.
I really do think that this country has been raped, the virginity of its security, safety, friendship, and socioeconomic status have been stolen. And I actually don't blame the terrorists.
I blame partisan bickering, chaos in the parties, and idiot after idiot vying for the title of president. I think for well over 40 years we've been settling for second best with our candidates, and it's not even Americans in general who end up pulling these losers out of congress and wherever else they dig them up. The democrats have become scattered accross the issues, while the republicans have turned into a party full of christian right pandering and bent wills. Few people take a stand anymore, and when they do, they become cement. Everyone stares interest groups right in the eye and says "okay, sure, why not?" while our country goes off to fight everyone else's battles.
Once, our military stood for might and solidarity in the face of perverse artifacts of the world. It stood up for the little guy and humbled the dictator. When we were attacked, we sought vengance. When others were being pushed around, we offered, not forced, our help. There was a time that every good nation both feared and loved us.
The statue standing in the waters outside of New York is a reminder of who we once were. Even the French offered support to this great nation, because we stood for things even they had no clue about. We encouraged liberties, and from the very beginning, we were a nation of improvement. We started out white men with a dream of freedom, and became a nation of color and variety, a place you could go to find a little bit of everywhere.
But now we are afraid of everyone.
We've gone from the greatest nation in the world, to a xenophobic, barbarian culture. Justice is not simply found in the death of a leader, but in the healing of the nation we battle. Justice is not found in a war where the warriors hate eachother. Respect and honor are needed for a just war, and the last time we had that was somwehere around 1942.
War isn't pretty, war isn't fun, war isn't something to be sought, but war is an answer.
We're just answering the wrong question.

Damn, I can never write a couple words in my posts on this forum.
