Ah, adrian. so young.

Sort of.

The Ramones are pop punk. They were the first pop punk. Classical Punk is not a genre because classical punk is too diverse. You can't have The Ramones being compared to The Misfits. Misfits are more into dark, evil type of stuff, whereas The Ramones were always singing about partying and whatnot. They were happy people, and it showed in their songs.

Pop-Punk isn't a bad genre. Just because The Ramones would be listed in the same category as Simple Plan doesn't make them any less of a band.

The Ramones are pop.
Look it up.

And this is not opinion.

The people who appear in their video has absolutley nothing to do with the type of music they play. They're friends with Joel(I think it was joel) and that friend of Kelly Osbourne is friends with Skinhead Rob. That's why she was in the video.

Rancid has always been pop punk with the exception of Rancid 2000.

Give me your confused, your genre-soaked, your mis-informed and over-hyped masses longing to listen in an environment free of types, sub-types, genres, sub-genres and wish for music that's not hyphenated-into-levels-of-heretofore-unquantifiably-immense-bullshit labels....

And I will play for them some rock and roll.

And I'm surprised at the number of people here who like Mongwai.

Anyway, here's ten songs that made recurring appearances over the summer for me:

The Bug ft Rootsman & He-Man - Killer
The Creepers - Baby's on Fire
Girls Aloud - No Good Advice
Gainsborough & Bardot - Bonnie and Clyde
Beyonce Knowles - Crazy in Love
REM - Bad Day
Dizzee Rascal - I Luv U
The Darkness - Get your hands off my Woman
James Chance & The Contortions - Contort Yrself

and now for a song i totally hate but it's been trapped in my head forever:

Aqua - Barbie Girl

I was just playing the Mad Hatter in a production of Alice in Wonderland and I had a quasi-techno version of "Will you, won't you" to sing and the beat to it was so similar to this song that i just broke down and sang the Barbie song at one point. No one knew what the hell I was talking about, they'd never heard of it, but fear not, ARSG, because this song haunts me as well. Damn my ears.

Aaah! I'm serious!

They do go under britpop as well, but a lot of their songs fall under dancecore category.

Some other dancecore bands:

The Faint
Grandaddy
Hot Hot Heat

Er, that's all I can think of right now.

Some people might also call them electroclash, but I think that sounds weird.

Oh, was that nate who listed "Shine on you crazy diamond"? I forgot about "Wish You Were Here". I had that playing in my car, screaming "SHINE ON YOU CRAAAAAAZY DIAMOND! Doo doo doo doo doo doo," all summer.

I am not a filthy hippie. I am not a filthy hippie. I am not a filthie hippie. I am not a filthy hippie.

I also forgot about King Crimsons "Larks Toungues in Aspic." Mmmmmm.

10. "Beer for My Horses" Thank Nate for this one.
9. "99.9%" or something like that. Country song Nate listens to a lot.
8. "Someday We'll Know" the New Radicals (a pure genius song in my opinion)
7. Bic Runga (anything by this beautiful jazz singer makes me feel squishy inside) See any American Pie soundtrack, or check out her own album.
6. "Didya Understand That?" Pop singer who I can't remember the name of...
5. "Cry" Angie Aparo <3
4. "It's 5 o'clock somewhere" Country... duet... the guy who sings "Margaritaville" and another guy... I can't think today.
3. "Amazing" Can't remember the artist but lyrics along this line "Baby, you're a-ma-zing/ I want to let you see..."
2. "The First Cut is the Deepest" Sheryl Crow <3
1. "White Flag" Dido <3 <3

I listen only to post-electrojazzabilly garage bands. Stuff like the Swingin' Nosediggers and Jive Anus (which some critics mistakenly call acid zydeco, a whole different thing). I do NOT mean that crap they play on the radio, like Sergeant Queer, the Pus Toads, or You Stepped in Pookie. That sellout shit might qualify as electrojazzabilly, but there is nothing "post" or "garage" about it. For God's sake, last weekend, I saw some 13-year old suburban brat in the mall wearing a Father Gutbucket t-shirt over his Eddie Bauer jeans. Before you know it, you're going to hear "Salami Hog" on a beer commercial.

Yes. I love that album. Despite the saturation airplay for Casbah and Should I Stay Or Should I Go. I just put Red Angel Dragnet on a mix tape for my wife the other day (needless to say, it was a weird mix tape).

Really? Sheryl Crow's cover of "The First Cut is the Deepest"? Anyway...

Here's mine in no particular order. Note that I listened to Jesus Christ Superstar a LOT during the summer.

01 - John Lennon - "Oh Yoko"
A haunting love song that proves Lennon could still make good music even after he turned into a crazy asshole.

02 - Rod Stewart - "Every Picture Tells a Story"
Classic rawk.

03 - Nico - "These Days"
A husky-voiced German lady's gorgeous elegy.

04 - The Beatles - "Something"
Of all The Beatles, only George never started to suck.

05 - Jesus Christ Superstar - "King Herod's Song"
A rockin', ambiguously gay King Herod. Who knew?

06 - Rent - "Out Tonight"
Daphne Rubin-Vega has the greatest voice I've ever heard period.

07 - Jesus Christ Superstar - "Heaven on Their Minds"
Ben Vereen has such a great rock voice. He even got a nod in "Run Ronnie Run" (the Mr. Show movie).

08 - The Ramones - "Sheila is a Punk Rocker"
The Ramones are great, but most of their stuff sounds the same... Anyway, this one really stuck in my head.

09 - A Chorus Line - "I Can Do That"
Short and sweet. The movie makes it better, notably with the addition of the black guy.

10 - Rufus Wainwright - "Hallejulah"
Just awesome.
