I was planning on going through and giving my take on the tragedy component (if any) in every comic submitted. But since I'm tired at a halfway decent time, I'm going to give an overview instead and then hit the sack and dream of fluffiness and a world with no hard consonants.

Some of the comics used tragedy in one of two very subtle ways:

Good things happening to a tragic figure. Such as Scyess's Cowdjinn being chained in a closet (just so its owner could have someone to talk to) meeting Bova.

Thwarting our expectations of tragedy. Such as dandy ougan's death giving directions.
[br]
But in the end I said "Fuck it. I'll consider them all!" (I didn't actually say that. That's what I like ~to call a literary device.)

So...ones I really dug: (And if you don't mind, picture me as Bob Saget on America's Funniest Videos as I read these. Add the laughtrack too.)

Mohsury loves company by kaufman

Baggies Full of Bliss by Scyess

Love through a translator by Scyess

Rite of Passage by andydougan

It can't be tragic if it makes no sense by Ranma X.

An extremely pointless comic by wirthling

When the cinnamon roll is called up yonder by Namgubed

Summer Fun by Kevin Keegans Perm

06 by Little_Sqirrel

Let's all Sing the Happy Song! by kaufman

I narrowed it down to these four:

It can't be tragic if it makes no sense by Ranma X.
06 by Little_Sqirrel
Summer Fun by Kevin Keegans Perm
Let's all Sing the Happy Song! by kaufman

And then down to these two:

It can't be tragic if it makes no sense by Ranma X.
Let's all Sing the Happy Song! by kaufman

And this choice was very very tough, but I finally went with...

Congratulations, kaufman!

Did you make that jingle up or base it off of an existing song? Either way, any series that can get a song stuck in my head for three days is highly deserving of the win.

Congrats kaufman

didn't think I'd get to be in that final run.

incidentally, the portugese in that comic is Mahna de carnival, from Black orpheus: a good, though sadly, tragic movie(pun unintentional).

Oh, goodness, no. That was composed by far better songwriters than myself, a couple of fellas by the names of Lennon and McCartney (this one was especially the work of the former, IIRC). I did take the liberty of changing "Bang, bang, shoot, shoot!" to "Boom, boom, splat, splat" due to prop availability.

Anyway, you'll find this and other catchy jingles on your friendly neighborhood White Album.

Well, not that I could've actually expected anyone to know this, since I'm sure you haven't read all 299 of my comics, and even if you had I haven't mentioned it there, because I always run out of room, since I tend to write horrendously bad run-on sentences all the time when I get off on a tangent, much like this one, and forget totally what I was talking about until I look back and suddenly realize I haven't typed a period in the last 45 minutes and have to rip out some of my toenails to try to teach myself not to do that in a somewhat Pavlovian fashion, and... ah, shit. Hold on.

*RIP*

Anyway, for the record, in my cast of characters, Cowdjinn IS indeed chained in the closet, but being a pink cow, he doesn't mind. I suspect he rather likes the hominess. Pink cows don't view freedom the way you and I do, you see. He just lives quietly in the closet with his best friend, Jon, who keeps him chained up because if he didn't, Cowdjinn would eat him. Maybe that's tragic, though Jon doesn't seem to mind. Whatever. 8)

This is the kind of thing I think about at 2:00 am instead of sleep.

Anyway, I didn't actually mean to enter all those old comics into the contest (which is why I submitted links instead of comics); I only posted them there because I thought your point about comedy without tragedy was interesting. But I'm glad you at least liked "Love through a Translator." That one is one of my favorites, er, of mine. Anyway...
