This was actually a tough decision, both of them are damn good. on a scale of 1 to 10 for inventivness and humor id give crabby an 8, but Kauf's was a little more polished so he gets a 9.

Well... it is the sort of thing I was trying to prevent by saying "famous". However, I'm going to allow it in this case, because (a) two of the three quotes in the strip are legal and well-chosen, and (b) choosing that particular quote from that particular person seems to have been a creative decision rather than simple ignorance of the rules. And it does make the strip funnier.

So, as it stands, we have entries from each contestant, and 2 votes out of 9 for kaufman.

I'll probably have made up my mind about this by evening... I gotta say though, that part of what's given me this trouble was kaufman's layout. I get the strip, but it doesn't have that "flow."

Really? I thought there were enough to give it to kaufman already. In that case, I'm actually going to agree with wirthling here, and cast a vote for crabby. I guess he's good for *something* other than fodder for our comics.

I vote for kaufman not because his comic is funnier (which it is) or because crabby annoys me (which he does), but because spelling mistakes in comics make me itch.

Round 4 is 5-2 in favor of kaufman, who will therefore meet NastyPope in Round 6. Congratulations and good efforts from both contestants.

Well, the qualifying rounds are over, and we've separated the oil from the vinegar. In the semifinals, the rules don't get harder, just more numerous.

Round 5: Drexle vs. LadyJ

1. The strip must parody a popular newspaper comic. "Popular" means it runs in more papers than the Bumblefuck Daily Herald. If the judges don't get the joke, they're not likely to vote for you.

2. At least one male character and one female character must appear in the strip. Additional characters of any (or no) gender are optional.

3. The strip or a character must allude to a work of classic Literature. Edgar Allen Poe wrote Literature. William Shakespeare wrote Literature. Danielle Steele does not write Literature. If you have to ask whether a work is Literature, it's not.

4. At least one character must talk (or think) about being a chef. Said character need not actually be a chef. I'm intentionally not stating this more specifically than that. Just make sure the judges don't have to wonder where the part about being a chef is, and you'll be alright.
