I quite liked the Fifth Element, it had a kind of quirky charm.

So did I. I thought it was one of Willis' better movies, actually. Add Mila Jovovich in next to nothing and Tiny 'Zeus' Lister as (snicker) the PRESIDENT, and it's a keeper.

I think my memory of it is corrupted by Chris Tucker's awful hair and general idiocy. That and the fact that Gary Oldman should not have been anywhere near it. Whether you like the film or not, it was beneath him, in my opinion.

More like smirky barm if you ask me.

As for Chris Tucker, I found him less annoying in 5th than I usually do. He kind of got a comeuppance in the 5th.

I must admit that I miss the Giffen/DeMatteis-era Justice League. I could read Watchmen over and over again. And Kingdom Come was nicely done, for Mark Waid.

Yah, I was a bit of a DC geek, though I rarely get anything these days. I also have an almost complete set of Marvel and DC-era Star Trek (original cast) comics. Which in total are worth about 3 bucks.

i actually taught The Watchmen in an English class. half the kids loved it, the other half wanted to kill me. did you ever notice the discussion on Afghanistan in there? the last time i taught that graphic novel, the students had to finish it for 9/11/01. very creepy. created an interesting effect in class.

There are girls in the SF/comic/RPG/fandom world. There are relatively few of them, and so competition is fierce. The secret to getting them is to be in the top percentile of desirability among the males of fandom. Which really isn't so hard after all.

Yep. I was a big Marvel-ite from my youth up until the late 80s, when I hit high school, became depressed and started spending my allowance on Cure records instead of comics.

Of course, now that Joss Whedon is going to be writing an X-Men comic for a year, I may have to jump back in.
