w0rd. i was mad they got rid of baker, since he was understaffed with all the injuries and the cheap tribune company and was still right about .500 for his 4 years there. i was thinking they should have ditched hendry and kept dusty (whom i trusty), but you're right, this is looking good. :D. any news on Pierre? Pierre-Soriano-Ramirez-Lee 1 2 3 4 makes me purr. still need some starters (Schmidt hopefully like you said) and a closer (i lost faith in dempster last year, though maybe he still has it in him.) and hopefully Pinella will know what to do with all the talent and egos since he's not used to having such large payroll players at tampa bay. but goddamn, i'm pretty excited at the prospect of it all

The Baker thing...I was too close and lost faith very quickly. He said lots of things to the media where if you don't read his quotes everyday I can understand how people could like him, but reading the things he said everyday I lost all respect for him. A terrible job of managing in the playoffs in 03 didn't help things either.

Pierre signed with the Dodgers. I'm not the biggest fan of Soriano batting leadoff, but I guess that's where he wants to be. There is also taalk of maybe Wood coming out in the closers role since he'll be coming out of the bullpen this year. At any rate it should definetly be a much more exciting season, especially now that Ivan Dejesus is special assistant to Lou Pinnella

Ivan Dejesus? I have, like, 300 of his baseball cards! In almost every pack I'd buy, there was Ivan Dejesus. He was on his way to becoming my favorite player until I realized he wasn't that great at baseball.

Busty Dusty couldn't help all the injuries that tore the team apart, but he's not that great a manager, either. Lou Pinstripes Pinella will light a fire under their asses, at least.

Don't know why they didn't hire Girardi. You Chicago guys know anything about that? Apparently, he rubs people the wrong way.

I know the team blew up the "Bartman" ball, but they should have Bartman ride around the field on a goat at the home opener!

he'd have had to say a lot of things to make me forget he gave the cubs consecutive winning seasons for the first time in 30 years, not to mention the fact they wouldn't have even made it to the playoffs without him in 03, let alone come to within 5 outs of the world series. the reason the Cubs lost were bad personnel moves (Nomar anyone?), crippling injuries, and the cubs' lack of spending in the face of those injuries. i think chicago area fans were duped by the tribune-owned WGN and Chicago Tribune media coverage, steering them away from those pretty obvious facts

I felt that Boorites attempt to derail the blt thread with his porno pictures was behavior that would not be tolerated on most other forums. Of course it was in FGH which by definition shouldn't have rules but He's one of the SC heavyweights so I thought he should have been cooler.
