Speak for yourself, dcom.

Yahoo still hates Hotmail - I got the addresses today when Zegota replied to all of us with his address change. Expect my discs in about 4 weeks, 6 weeks tops.

I just ordered a cd off the net on which there is a song I'm going to put on my cd.
I thought I had the whole song (about 3 minutes) but it turns out that the fading at the end of the song isn't the end of the song.
The song on the cd is 10 minutes or so.

So I'll be waiting for that cd before I burn and send and stuff.
I should get it next week or the week after that at worst.

If anything you'll be able to use my compilation to annoy neighbours or scare off annoying houseguests.

Just got dcom's CD through the door this morning, and since I'm off work with strep throat I am gonna listen to it now.

My status: shortlisting tracks, and installing the necessary software on the new PC. Discs can be expected in about 3-5 weeks.

I listened to all of "Dongs...oops, I mean...Wangs." It would be an excellent hip hop compilation to chill out and smoke weed to, if I could get any.

Glad I heard this before I sent out my disc - it was gonna have Dizzee Rascal on it.

"Dongs" was also good, if you count a CD full of Australian hip-hop as good. Which I did - there were no crap songs on either disc and some damn good ones too.

Received Dongs and Wangs today.
I shall listen to them in the near future.

Are we supposed not to send any song titles along so people don't know what to expect when they listen to it the first time?
And then the titles get posted here once everyone got them?

I got the cd I ordered of the net with the song I wanted to put on so I'm gonna burn the cd's his week and send 'em of when ready.

What speed do you guys burn at btw? Do I have to worry about crappy foreign cd players unable to play cd's made with superior Belgian technology?

I'll be burning at 4x speed.

You might need to send a CD power adaptor with your discs since we use 240v electricity over here, your discs might sound speeded up to me.

My status: Shortlisted CD#1 - ready to go bar tracklisting and cover art, which is nearly done.

Need to experiment with some technologies, so still about 3-4 weeks away from delivery.

Burnt disc one last night but the first track, which was a short sample, has got comedically distorted and speeded-up. I hope this does not enjoy any future enjoyment of the disc you might have when you receive it, in 2-4 weeks.

I hate to post my reviews before the actual group members, but I've had more time to listen to music lately, and I was in the mood for rap, so here it go...

WANGS

01. Awesome intro. I'm addicted to sound/quote clips, so this one's going into my digital audio library, STAT!
02. Excellent rhyme flow and fly bass groove (yes, I am reviewing these discs with some leftover 80s slang; I found a bunch of it in the glove compartment of my hooptie).
03. Mad shout-outs. Props, peeps.
04. Nice. Damn, these tracks are flying by.
05. Mmmmmm...uncleared samples.
06. Staccato rhymes always entertain me. A+
07. Great shit. My rap station here never plays anything remotely like this anymore. They used to before they sold out. Of course, it doesn't help that they'd have to edit every other word. Word!
08. McSkit.
09. Ha, that one guy sounds like Mike Tyson.
10. Smooth. The PE ref adds +2 Prop Mastery.
11. Okay, this disc has a great feel so far--sweet mix.
12. Great beat.
13. Very good. I should know who this is.
14. RAP = Rhythm And Poetry
15. Reminds me of 3rd Base!
16. Cool.
17. OMGSTFULOLOL111
18. I love ATCQ--the old stuff, anyway.
19. a brief announcement...
20. Wiggedy-What?
21. Oh, there's that Dizzee Razcal jes mentioned.
22. Okay.
23. The trouble with an all-rap disc is that some songs...
24. start to run together, and I lose interest.
25. Ah, here's a good one.
26. Hmmmm. Slightly better than the TV show.
27. Didn't Wu-Tang sample this on "36 Chambers?" maybe not.
28. Nice.
29. Fuckin' hilarious! Sing wit' me now, "Heaven isn't too far away...Closer to it every day..."

[hr]

DONGS

01. More mad intro flava.
02. "Pier pressure?" Ha! Great rhymes, here. "Shift me kidneys!"
03. Is this the same crew or do all Aussie rappers sound like Slick Rick?
04. Smooth.
05. So far, dope word play seems heavily valued in Aussie rap. Works for me.
06. Fly female fricative fireworks. Unlike a lot of female rappers, she has a good voice.
07. Good rhythm track.
08. Cool.
09. Okay.
10. Spacey background guitar is always good.
11. As James Brown used to say, "Horns!"
12. More horns. Uh, one horn. Different horn. Horn-y.
13. Holy Shit! It's the new "gravy boat."
14. Very good.
15. O
16. K
17. Better. Hype beats.
18. Okay.
19. More good stuff.
20. What is that tune,? dammit?

[hr]

Overall, I like Wangs a bit better than Dongs (no, those words won't come back to haunt me; what do you mean?). Wangs has a lot of momentum and the mix is super nice. On the flip tip, I really dig hearing that Australian rap. I guess the uniqueness sort of wore off as the disc went on, but there's a lot of great stuff on Dongs, too. And of course, I must bow humbly towards the obviously large and impressive rap collection of dcomposed. Thank you, sir, your Wangs and Dongs hit the spot!

Final Marks:
WANGS A
DONGS B+

Here's a thought:

I could send out my first disc this weekend, and then you could wait another fortnight for part 2, or you can wait until both are done.

What would you prefer?

Also, if anyone in any of the other groups wants to side-swap, I have spare copies of Disc 1 and am more than happy to trade.

I don't think Australia even has rap stations.

Possibly. They may have also both sampled the same song.

quote:
02. "Pier pressure?" Ha! Great rhymes, here. "Shift me kidneys!"
Pier pressure is the best rhyme ever.

I think Slick Rick actually is every Australian rapper.

Sorry Im getting slow with keeping up with this, Dcomp review soon I promise.

As for my CD , the first one will be an intersting mix, and I may have to include notes, because Im going against my own judgement on a couple of tracks, simply because it is essentially a run-down of tracks from artists I saw when at glastonbury, and while I only chose from artists I enjoyed while drenched in a field, when you actually get back and listen to some of their albums they can be dissappointing a little.

Second one will obviously be the bees knees however.

18. enjoyable
19. like this
20. Ok

First Id like to explain that this isnt my usual brand of coffee, Im not really big into rap, or hip-hop, but on the whole I liked what I heard, and one of the reasons I enter the swaps is to get tunes I wouldnt ordinarily listen to. So from that perspective I think both cds were a success. I particularly liked Dongs, it was a unique mix and something I enjoyed listening to. Wangs was great too, but perhaps its because Im not used to hearing australian hip-hop I prefered Dongs as its got a uniqueness to it, and as Jes put both cds are fantastic to chill out to, so I was very impressed.

Awarded Rating (based this time on food in my cupboard):

Wangs - Tin of Baked Beans.
Everyone should have at least one tin in their cupboard, and while they may not be your first choice snack, they're always there when you want them, and when you do, they're delicious.

Dongs - Pineapple Chunks.
Delicious, exotic and good for any occasion, and after youve finished them you'll want more. The man from Delmonte, he say "yes"

Some brief track notes for "Compilation of Extraordinary Magnitude"

***OOPS*** *Magnitude!*
1. The software I used can burn MP3's at quadruple speed but seemingly not .WAVs. Arse. sorry.

Snow Patrol Ask Me How I Am
2. You need to buy Snow Patrol's "Final Straw" LP if you're into bands like Belle and Sebastian and that whole Scottish scene, even though these guys are originally from Northern Ireland.

Screamager Therapy?
3. My brother went out with the lead singer's cousin once. These guys rocked, another Norn' Irish band.

KoRn Did My Time
4. There's a theme developing, my brother sent me this track. Rock. Only good track on the new album though.

Deceiver Napalm Death
5. Funnily enough, I bought this CD in Belgium in 1994 for 640 francs. Hopefully Zegota will like this. All Napalm Death's songs are like this, fucking intense! ROORGH! BAH BAH BAH-BAH BAH BAAAH!

Christy Moore Carrickfergus
6. "By Total Contrast"...I went to schooool....in Carrickfergus....only there were no annoying nasal vocalists singing a crap version of a folk song we still sing on nights out back there. Especially the verse about being drunk all the time.

Autechre Eutow
7. Autechre make the music your washing machine and microwave listen to when you're out of the house. One of their shorter, easier pieces. Warp Records, baby.

Tortoise TNT
8. Tortoise played at the festival I went to in March, when we set fire to our mate Graham's bollocks. They're definitley a studio band.

Bomb The Bass Megablast
9. This track was the dog's nuts to me in 1988 when I was 10. The grand-daddy of rap metal.

Corneilius Seashore and Horizon
10. Number one, Cornelius are great producers of music, number two: featured vocals by Brad band favourite, Apples In Stereo.

Prefuse 73 Blacklist
11. Most of their stuff doesn't have as much rap, but the One Word Extinguisher album is a benchmark in creative hip-hop/electronica crossover, and you need it.

Brothomstates Qtio
12. Warp Records strikes again. The Governor might remember the Sprite advert with the gremlin in it. Qtio did the music for that as well as this mental piece of music. No apologies if you find this "challenging".

Elgar Nimrod
13. Cue English guy making powerful dramatic speech over the top of this. Classical class.

Global Communication 14:31
14. One of the greatest pieces of ambient music from one of the greatest ambient albums ever, '76:13'

Optical To Shape The Future
15. No apologies for putting this on, it still kicks heavy degrees of arse after 5 years, it's like the solution to some amazing mathematical equation, except with beats.

Roy Budd Casette Jazz
16. L33t Piano skillz from one of the great jazz musicians of the last 30 years.
The Clash The Guns OF Brixton 17. I went to Brixton (in inner-city London, by the way) once, and was nearly mugged twice - once by a guy trying to sell me drugs, once by one of those guys who wears a bib and works for a charity. Also this track was sampled by Beats International.

The Who Behind Blue Eyes
18. Did some crap nu-metal band cover this? If so they want shooting. I identify with the lyrics a lot. 100% true.

Orbital Impact (USA mix)
19. There's no way this does justice to the genuine article live, now they've split up but I reckon this is their Magnus Opus; this is the version they play(ed) live.

IRFU Ireland's Call
20. This was gonna be the first track - this is the song they wrote so people from Ulster could join in singing when the anthems were played at the rugby matches.

Which means Im not prepared to pre-empt myself or tempt fate once more by proclaiming they are getting posted till I actually mail the suckers.

Although having said that, this weekend will probably be when said event may occur.

Self Titled is essentially the main one, as Something for Everyone I restricted myself to bands (and acts) I saw at Glasto (and cheated a little bit) which I thought were good (apart from McCartney who gets on by default, although I only caught the first part of his set, which was a disappointment at the time as he started pretty crappily, although I caught highlights of the set on TV afterwards and it looks like he got better later on), consequentally I had quite a limited shortlist for that cd.

Speaking of whores, I'm a lying one as well. My discs for you guys went out today instead of "by the end of October." The reason being that I found a few small errors in one disc during a quality control check. Fearing that I no longer had the master disc, I was trying to decide if I should reassemble all the pieces and reburn said disc. Luckily, I found the master and made new copies. The banjaxed disc was "Commercial Music." You'll see why it would have been a bitch to recompile.

Also, I think everyone except Zegota received at least one regular jewel case as opposed to all slimlines. I included the extra label in case you want/need it for another disc. The track listings for "TennesSongs" and "Commercial Music" are on the back of my homemade cover. Just remove the original insert to see them.

Next, the "Disc O' Mystery" has no track list for obvious reasons. And I changed the mix for this group, so reading choad's review of the mystery disc will only help identify the first four tracks. I'll email my full notes for all three discs in a couple of weeks.

Finally, you should receive your packages in 5-7 postal days. If you want to post reviews of my discs, just do so in this thread; I'll find them. Thanks for letting me lurk in your group.

Oh, and I received Gov's discs a couple of days ago. They look snazzy.
