Opeth makes me fall asleep, but I can't fault anyone for liking them. In fact, I commend those brave souls who listen to Opeth. Especially in a car or while operating heavy equipment.

Opeth, Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Morbid Angel, Slayer, who cares if these guys are all fairly mainstream? Why are so many of my bretheren getting all underground on me? Metal doesn't need to be underground unless you wanna pretend that being one of 5 people (including the band) who listens to a group makes you cool. In that case you're a fucking tool and should be beaten. Metal can be mainstream. Slipknot, Korn, Static X, Staind, these are not metal. Not even mainstream metal. Those bands are all freaking mallcore. And really lame.

ICP is rap. I have no quarrell with the braindeads who listen to rap for anything other than a quick laugh. They don't bug me, I don't bug them.

Slipknot on the other hand, gets confused with metal far too often. It's not so much that they suck (they do), it's more that metal fans don't want to be bundled into this "yelling really loudly, detuned guitars, talking about teenage angst, and wearing stupid costumes to make up for the fact that you only know four chords and need three drummers" bullshit. Listen to what you guys want, but stop lumping Iron Maiden and this radio rock shit together. Maiden has talent and uses it. These fakers don't use any talent.

Also, using costumes/makeup/props for a live show is not a sign of a shitty band. Using it to try to make up for your shitty music is. Image is important when it comes to creating an atmosphere for music. How into it can you get when some guy with thick, horn-rimmed glasses, short hair, and an "I LOVE JESUS" shirt on is belching out "FUCK YOU GOD!"?

"None of that 80s stuff"? Fuck you. Most of the good metal comes from the 80s, or at least bands that started in the 80s. If you hate 80s metal, then you hate the good metallica albums, Slayer, Iron Maiden (whose career skyrocketed in the 80s), Judas Priest, Dio, Manowar, Ozzy, Testament, Exodus, Anthrax, Helloween, and hundreds of other kick ass bands. And if you hate them, you deserve a good boot to the head. That *is* old school metal.

And if you're talking about RATT, Poison, Stryper and the like, then fuck you too. Buttrock bands are as much metal as Korn is. That is to say, not at all.

They're cheesier than a 1880's dairy farm. they are so over the top that they have trouble breathing because of the lack of oxygen. They take six freakin years to release a goddamned album! Luckily, their other albums have also grown with them and even though they're influenced by the flux of Emo we've been experiencing, they're still an alright listen. DX, they released "Hail to England" and "The Sign of the Hammer" in two years. Dont tell me they take 6 years to release albuns that suck major donkey balls when compared to those two, because of "quality".

BG owns the fucking world. Right after Testament. And only slightly above Brainstorm.

For a band that's been playing as long as Manowar, I'm happily surprised that they still put out music that rocks as much as it does. Look at metallica and Megadeth. Besides, Manowar fucking kicks ass live.

Oh, so close. I would put BG over Testament, personally. But yes, Testament kicks much ass too. Iced Earth, I'm disappointed in. Schaffer is becoming more of an ass every album, and as much as I love Ripper, I just don't feel he's right for Iced Earth's style. Glorious Burden isn't a bad album. It's just shite compared to Something Wicked. And believe it or not, I've actually not heard Brainstorm.
