Hey wirthling -- when I read "A nation perplexed..." (http://www.lowpass.net/stripcreator/view.php?ID=3398), I laughed myself silly -- and that was before I saw my name. (I have a bad habit of reading panels out of order, or incompletely, the first time around.)

I hope you don't mind, but I've taken the liberty of advancing the plot:

Your move. Feel free to put words in my mouth. :)

I went to your web site trying to figure out what the hell "All your base are belong to us" means and what it's all about. I still haven't got a clue. Did it come from lousy Japanese-English translations in a game? Actually, I think it might be funny if you continue not to explain what it means and just leave me perplexed...

I have some homework to do tonight, but I'll try to come up with a continuation of the theme later when I have more time...

I can explain as much of the story as I know, but that's not a whole lot. I'm hoping I can work the explanation into the Committee Hearing, but I'm afraid it'll be heavy on explanation and light on humor. I'll give it some thought and hopefully post a couple more strips after dinner.

BTW, that Porky Pig thing was hysterical. :)

Glad people like it.

Russ: thanks for the images; obviously we're getting plenty of use out of them. I'm a big Watchmen fan too.

Gabe: "Enlightenment" is one of my favorite strips. Nearly fell out of my chair laughing the first time I read it.

Here's a strip that I think has been begging to be written since the beginning....

But can we really take the credit for any of this? We're just hanging on the coat-tails of that marvelous phrase. Where would we be without it?

Heh, that's great. Maybe we can spawn a whole new meme using base-anagrams.

This one isn't part of the series, but it uses the line. I liked the Goats characters so much that I went and read the whole archives of the strip. It took me three days, but I finished, and here's the result.

In a case like this I'm always a little worried that someone's gonna do the same thing as me. Which is no big deal, as long as I get there first. Then I can feel superior and call them copycats and send them mailbombs.

Hey Dexx... I just thought of you whilst watching TV a little while ago. A commercial for Outback Steakhouse came on. I feel odd that there are probably stupid kids growing up here that thing steaks, fried onions and brownie sundaes are native Australian cuisine. Do you have silly Americanized restaurants over there too?

And you can settle a bet for me, thought neither me or my friend will ever be able to collect. Are there 7-11s in Australia? A guy I worked with said no, but I was guessing that they would have spread like an evil virus all over the earth. Their website said they have stores in a whole bunch of different countries, but obviously it was way too much work for them to write them all down.

That phrase completely cracks me up. Came to this website for the first time only a few days ago and was on the floor over a couple of them.

So, in homage to it, I created a couple of comics using the phrase. Check them out. Granted, they don't follow the plot, but are just asides. But even great shows like the Brady bunch often diverted themselves from their usual world-changing plots such as "Tiki Idol in Hawaii," "Bobby get lost in the grand canyon," and "Thurston Howell the Third locks them up in an old jail and steals their car," to pursue more light-hearted asides like, "Everyone's allergic to Tiger's SOAP, Not Tiger. Phew."

So, check 'em out if I haven't scared you away with the previous paragraph.

Gabe Billings wrote the stuff in italics...

Hey Dexx... ...Outback Steakhouse... I feel odd that there are probably stupid kids growing up here that thing steaks, fried onions and brownie sundaes are native Australian cuisine.

Funny you should have brought this up five days ago in a spot where I didn't see it until now.... uh, yeah. Australian cuisine can be divided into two categories - real Aussie food, and hardcore Aussie food. The real stuff is pretty much everything, including good old meat pies and such, plus Asian, Italian, Greek, Turkish, Arabic, English, Russian, and whatever else from our many many cultures. The hardcore stuff is a bit scarier - kangaroo (VERY yummy), crocodile, emu, water buffalo, barramundi (a type of coral and mangrove trout, also VERY yummy), even such horrors as snake and witchetty grub (a huge wood borer the size of a man's thumb - apprently it really tastes like chicken. Generally, we eat what my wife calls Cultural Fusion foods. One of our favourites is "kangaroganoff" - Russian stroganoff cooked with kangaroo meat. Kangaroo works well in stirfries and curries, too, but many of my friends hate the fact that I like to eat Skippy.

Do you have silly Americanized restaurants over there too?

...apart from McDonalds? Oh, we have the odd Grease-style diners and burger-bars, but we are more Continental, really.

And you can settle a bet for me... Are there 7-11s in Australia?

Of course we do! Where else would all the stoned people go at 3am? Apart from a 24 hour supermarket, of course... The CBD of Melbourne has more 7-Eleven's per square kilometre than any place on earth, I think. Lonsdale Street had FOUR at last count, and it's no more than 1.5km long.

Hahaha! Great comic. And glad to hear about the 7-11's. If I ever run into Todd again he owes me $10.

Hardcore aussie food sounds cool. My wife and I went to a seafood place here she likes (I don't like salmon and it stinks the house up when she cooks it). One of their specials was emu and I had to try it. (I love eating exotic foods.)

It was fantastic! One of the best meals I'd ever had. Do you really eat kangaroo? Somehow that sounds wrong. They're too cute. Cows are pretty homely.

I guess I take the 'wussy carnivore' stance on these things. If I don't have to kill it and clean it, I don't mind eating at it. (And as long as its relatives aren't smart enough to plot revenge.)

Kangaroos are cute, sure, but they are really just big short-haired sheep that jump. They are about as smart as sheep, and their meat is extremely yummy. It is also very low in fat and cholesterol. I cooked some Skippy tonight for some friends of ours visiting from germany, and they enjoyed it. They say it tastes like venison (deer meat, for those who don't know). SO know you know - Skippy tastes like Rudolph. :)
