I did this a few days ago, then discovered last night that his proportions were all wrong, and spent some time fixing them up. Here are some sample renderings...

Please forgive the JPEG artifacts. As you can see in the fourth one, his arms are just a tad long, and I just had to make up the feet. This guy will be appearing in a few of my pic editing contest entries, I am sure.

If anyone wants a pose rendered... uh... too bad. I'd be happy to do it, but you telling me and me sending it to you is currently impractical. Should get the router on Sunday... *fingers crossed*

Hmmm

Ill vote for Tobor in a horrifically Vanilla Ice "Word to yo momma" pose.

Ill be impressed if you can add a dodgy blonde quiff and basketball shirt as well.

He looks great, but he seems to be missing a... part.

What did you use to do these?

A very nice program called Rhinoceros, or just Rhino as it is usually called. I beta tested the original release through several updates, but then *sigh* they released the commercial version and my beta expired. I got the Rhino 2.0 demo off a magazine coverdisc. It is fully-featured, but only allows 25 saves before disabling itself. Since I can't afford the $600-ish it costs, I got... uh... a little bit of "help" from an old friend of mine and removed the save limit.

If I could afford it, I would buy it without hesitation - a really great modelling program. It has a very basic renderer included, but its developers highly recommend you use a good renderer like Lightwave or 3DS-MAX. A friend of mine has Lightwave, Fractal Painter, and Raydream Studio, and I am planning to give them all a go and see what i think of them.

I've been doing a fair amount of stuff in Bryce which is pretty sweet. For my Tobor I used Swift3D, which isn't quite as burly as some other programs, but I think it's one of the few 3D program that'll output things in vector format so that they can be stuck into Flash.

Here's a sample of some stuff I'm working on for a friend.

10 points if you know what those are. No clue? Take a look at the rest.

Still no idea? Here you go.

I knew what they were but didn't guess that they were considered BDSM-LMNOP equipment.

I had to create a God-damn Villagephotos account to hold these images, I just hope they work.

What did you make Clango in?

I use Rhinocerous 2.

Got a demo on a coverdisc, and http://astalavista.box.sk/ helped me out with the rest...

I beta tested Rhino 1 years ago, but have always been too poor to buy it.

I have to create a short 3d animation for a project for college. I had an idea, but now I'm quite drawn to having a "Clango Vs Tobor Steel Cage Cornhole Match".

How 'bout boorite and I dress up in Clango and Tobor costumes and you can film us and pretend it's animation.

I dunno. I guess cos Manga isnt "Cool" anymore , so anally probing robots just wouldnt work.

That said , if you and Boorite dress up as Clango and Tobor , and then tie Bazilla naked to the bed , ass in the air , i think theres a lot of people on this board would pay good money to see that tape.

I've submitted my proposal to create a Tobor cartoon, I'm not sure if they'll appreciate ass raping robots, but I'll start animating the moment I get clearance.

Well, my course co-ordinator just "had a word" with me about my proposal.

Despite them being a little worried for my sanity, they are willing to let me animate an ass-raping robot.

DexX, the original pics you posted.... are they still available for viewing? It's just that none of them at the beginning of the thread seem to work.

Removed them from my webspace ages ago. I'll put them back up if you like.

You will have seen my 3D Tobor in a LOT of my photoshop work, though.

Yeah, but there looks like there were 4 originally, so I was wondering if they were from different angles and such like

Bloody college students. My sister gets wonderful assignments in her course like "Cut some pictures out of a magazine" or "Write a sentence in crayon on some cardboard."

Are crayon and cardboard a prohibited medium?

When you're writing 2000 words, you run out of cardboard, and your crayons wear down too much.

I wrote my Master's thesis in orange Marksalot on grocery bags. And they took it. They had to. I'd paid for that degree.

Exactly, it's a private college that I'M paying for, I should be able to do whatever I want.

Although, my lecturer did say "At the end of the day Tommy, your animation will be the introduction to your digital CV. If you want potential employees to think you like gay robots, then fine".

The set is still being built, but I'll slip a few SC "in jokes" into the cartoon:

Well, the deadline for the cartoon is next friday, I have to present it to my class and lecturers on Wednesday, although the final product looks to be about 150meg, or 1.3 GIG uncompressed.

I should be able to compress it some more and get it down to a reasonably up/downloadable size, but if I don't, I'll have to send you CD's in the mail.

Assuming you want to see it that is.

You could always ask http://www.pocketmovies.net/ if they want it. If they accept it, it will be available to everyone!
