And to (really) answer your first question, it probably has something to do with the fact that the guy who apparently runs this (Johnny) ran out of money to build to site, but had no end to his supply of lethargy. If you make enough complai-- er, observations about the site, you will eventually get a schpiel about how much effort it takes to update things and that he doesn't want to do it. 8)

But the password/name thing isn't nearly as messed up as the scoring system.

Actually, squirting flowers and whoopie cushions are novelty gags used for practical jokes. The squirting flower you attach to your lapel and when someone goes to sniff it, you pump the water out and give them a nice shower. Whoopie cushions are the devil's tool, and I'd rather not offend your gentle sensitivities by elaborating on their egregious function.
