This post will probably appear twice so I apologise if it does first. And again.
Those in my group already got way more detail than what I'll write here, but this compilation was sort of a microcosm of my life, alternating between full on dance and punk, and more introspective laid-back tracks:
1. Pete Moore - Asteroid
It's the Pearl and Dean Cinema advertising theme, as sampled by Moloko.
2. Jacknife Lee - Here Kitty Kitty
60's swinger music remixed by a guy from Dublin. Groovy baby.
3. The Zephyrs - The Buildings Aren't Going Anywhere
A band from Edinburgh, sounding a bit like Low I suppose but in 3/4 time. I dated the girl who plays cello on this track (very briefly) She also still plays cello for Mogwai I think.
4.Cousin Joey - Theme from 4 Friends
Very local band like Sum 41 crossed with Blink 182 and unsigned, but not for long. I am trying to get them a deal but will be beaten by Polydor probably.
5. Goldfrapp - Lovely Head Alison Goldfrapp has this strange, breathy, dreamy singing style. She also whistles really well. Dreamy electronica
6. Ash - Uncle Pat From before they made it big, folkier than their usual stuff. Fact: My mate Barry went to school with Tim Wheeler. A roadie I met confirmed Barry's opinion that Tim Wheeler is "a knob" Still the best band to come out of N.Ireland recently though.
7.Ferdinando Carulli - Duo in G, played by John Williams and Julian Bream
Classical guitar piece which I like, mainly because it was the theme to an old 80's BBC series called "The Adventure Game"
8. Roots Manuva - Witness (1 Hope)
British bass-heavy hip-hop track which used to get us dancing a while ago. Mentions "cheese on toast" and "drowning ten pints of bitter" in the lyrics, which beats anything P-Diddy could come up with.
9.co.uk - Not Today
Punk band from Belfast, this downtempo track is about being a student, living in squalor, and wanting to kill yourself. Dunno if they are still recording.
10. The Libertines - Up The Bracket
"Produced by a guy out of The Clash" should give you an idea how new band the Libertines sound. Incidentally I just found out "Bracket" is slang for a woman's front bits. How about that?
11. Doves - There Goes The Fear
Turns from an indie tune into a samba at the end. Doves used to be a dance band but their studio burnt down and decided to write emo/indie instead. Recorded off the radio so there's an intro/outro by Steve Lamaq off Radio 1.
12. King Missile - Detatchable Penis
Found this on the 'net and remembered hearing it on the radio when I was 15. Hilarious tune about a guy with...well...you've probably heard it anyway.
13. Orbital - Choice
My favourite group evar it was hard to pick just one of their tracks to put on but Choice seemed topical at the time. (it's a protest song)
14. The Vandals - Disproportioned Head
More comedy punk, don't know much else about them other than how much this rocks.
15&16. Interlude - Look and Read songs "Magic E" and "I'm an Apostrophe"
Was feeling retro and hoped people would appreciate the comedy value of an educational song that was banned from kids TV in the 90's.
17. BBC - Theme from "Roobarb"
Anyone who's ever seen Roobarb will sing you this. 30 seconds of 70's British animated-dog-and-cat-antics theme tune.
18. Deejay Ibrahim - The Imperial Death March Bootleg
52 seconds of a track myself and DJ Ib did one afternoon. If the Emperor had his own beatbox kru it would sound like this.
19. Röyksopp - Eple
A cracking little electronica tune by two Norweigian guys. Accessible and funky. All their stuff is gold.
20. The Right Amount of Wrong - Double Oh! Heaven
Drum and bass demo some guy sent me, it's extremely well produced, heavily samples from James Bond in Goldfinger and rocks. Cuts off at the end badly.
21. Aquasky vs. Master Blaster - 777
A very underground breakbeat track, this went on to show people what I used to DJ with. About 2 minutes too long.
22. Labi Ciffre - I Got The...
2 minutes into this standard 70's jazz/r'n'b track, you sit and go "What the fork? That's the bassline from Eminem's My Name Is...!" Which is why it went on - the original is funkier.
23. I am Kloot - Dark Star
Melancholy Scouse guitar band, this track went on to salute unsung heroes in bands everywhere, who play gigs and make a good career but never make it "big".
24. Teenage Fanclub - Ain't That Enough
60's influenced Scottish indie band, this is quite upbeat and poppy. They do a passable cover of Here Comes Your Man by The Pixies
25. Boards of Canada - Over The Horizon Radar
See kramer's tracklisting for more info on the BoC, this is an ambient track that used up a spare 1 minute and 8 seconds.
That took ages, this had better post. Sorry if you had to skip the duplicate copy.
