White people are the most divided of all "races". Just in America you have have Americans of Italian, Polish, Irish, French, German, Scandinavian, Russian, Romanian, and English(such as myself) decent among others. The racism between each of these peoples is less obvious since the melting pot has worked for us, but it has made us united in the sense that we (at least most of us) don't give a shit.
Black Pride is about the disunity of black peoples and the lack of a known ancestry. When the slave trade was in full effect, we were esentialy destroying the geneologies of peoples less advanced than ourselves, which creates a "children in the wilderness" feeling for people who care about that kind of stuff. Consoquently people with dark skin tone lump themselves into one ethnicity. They're unable to do anything else, unlike the Native Americans, who, while they were destroyed by settling Europeans, for the most part are still able to trace their roots to their tribes and remain part of the cultural comunity of their ancestors.
I said all this to say "whites" is a generic term. You ask a white person about their ancestry, and they could tell you their great grandparents came from Italy or wherever, but they don't typicaly wear it on their sleave. Because there's no reason to.
Boorite is right, race is a poor term describing "groups of people who share a common cultural and genetic herritage". However, when you examine the details, white people have very little in common other than their skin tone. So do black people, asians, native americans, middle eastern peoples, and so on.
I'm not sure what point I was addressing, but these are my feelings on the issue.
