I do so love that comic. Several times I've relayed that comic verbally to friends and, because I can't tell a joke, butchered it terribly effectively removing all humor from it.

Anyway... that comic should be #1.

I guess the thing to keep in mind is that anything with less than 10 votes is probably going to drop severely in the ratings once more people vote on it.

As Fuzzyman suggested, I could make it so that you need more votes to make the list, but then the list would rarely change.

When I check the toprated list my thinking tends to be "oh look at the new comics at the top of the list", then when I read them, I might think "yeah, that's funny, but is it really funnier than 'You've Got Cancer'? Nah, it's just "okay".

That being said, I tend not to vote a comic okay. In my opinion "okay" is like saying "not worth an opinion", so I won't bring a comic's rating down just because I couldn't make a decision wether I liked it or not.

But that's just me.

Also, I think possums has proved whoever it was that started this thread right.

Hardly any strips are as good as "you've got cancer." You can't use that as a milestone unless the rating system is expanded to be a 1-10 scale where something like You've Got Cancer could be rated 10 and anything less funny but funny none the less could be an 8 or 9.

I do in fact rate comics "okay." A lot of them. Because a lot of them are decently funny, okay strips... but they're not hilarious.

Yeah, I'm not saying that my way of thinking is right. It's not an all-encompassing theory, there are comics above YGC that I rate good. But there have been times where I think that maybe I'd like a comic more if it wasn't sitting at the top of the list claiming to be the best.

Bringing back the 1-10 rating system might not be a bad idea, nor would Fuzzy's two list idea.

Couldn't the order be determined by a formula that uses number of votes as a variable, and not just as a tie-breaker? Under that system, "YGC" would be top.

I believe you are probably right. I caught a casual remark about this and took it out of context. Since I'm kinda sour on the vox populi in general lately, I guess I wanted to believe some self-serving chicanery was afoot.

today i was going through the pending rating list and i rated one of chicka's comics okay. i then saw it had a 0 rating before and changed my vote to bad. later i realised that was mean and went to change it back, but i read the comic again and decided i thought it deserved the bad.
