Actually, my idea was that consistency would be rewarded. Those who make good strips and avoid making real stinkers will go further.

All you have to do is make a strip that is at least slightly better than the worst strip in the current round. Of course, with fewer and fewer people in each round, the bar gets raised ever so slightly with each go-around. In the end we should be left with a couple of people who are pretty darn good.

Kind of like dodgeball with comics.

I also dislike the negativity involved in the format, but appreciate what it allows, which is a complete reversal of the norm. Usually, several great comics and one or two bad ones lose to the best comic... in this case, the great comics that would otherwise lose, actually win. Don't think of it as picking the loser. Just think of it as picking a whole bunch of winners.
