This is independent of the current swap going on. I just want to suggest a metal CD swap. Possibly something of a group effort to introduce the masses to something I hold dear.

Only list tracks that you have access to or can get access to. I'm willing to make the CDs and send them out if others want to send me the tracks. I figure about 12 tracks on each CD will do fine. If I can fit more, I will, however.

First off, I'd like a quick note from those who would like to recieve the CDs, and a short list (3 or 4 for now) of tracks that the metalheads would like included. If we can't cover all the bases with one CD, we can increase the number of tracks to two CDs worth and try to cover all our bases.

My first four tracks are of course:

Blind Guardian - Nightfall (Modern Power Metal)
Iron Maiden - Two Minutes to Midnight (Classic Heavy Metal)
Testament - Trial by Fire (Classic thrash)

I'll include a Borknagar track when I figure out what I want to include.

I have no idea whether anyone will be interested in this, but I'd certainly be willing to offer some tracks. I'd also like a copy of the final product since I'm sure there will be plenty of stuff on it that I'm only tangentally familiar with.

Having said that, most of the songs I like are really long... like in the 10 minute average range. I will try not to weigh it down too much with doom.

Alright guys, we'll need to compile a final list of the stuff we want. Whoever wants to can send me a message at one of my IMs, and I believe my email is in there. The best would be to either pop in a suggestion (if I have something) or send me an MP3. I may also download some stuff if I can find it. Drexle, you will get a copy of the CD when I make it. Everyone who wants one will get one, just so long as we don't get the entire board asking for a copy X)

This is just an introductionary thing. If it's just tracks of stuff you already like, it's not going to work with the purpose. The idea is mainly to introduce people to metal, so try not to suggest too many pure prog or pure alt bands. Tool, I'm sorry to say, is right out. I like Tool, but I doubt anyone has never heard Tool in this solar system. King Crimson and King's X are bands I'm not familiar with, so I will check them out and see if I can fit them on. I'll look into the other stuff as well.

Again, please *try* to only suggest stuff you have physical or mp3 copies of that you want to send to me.

Alright, I have Emperor, newer stuff and older. I have the newest Dimmu album, which I think would be best to put onto an "introductionary" CD. Reign in Blood would probably be best. Nile may be a little too... "rough", but I think we could fit it in there (something with REALLY good drums, as that's one of the best parts of Nile). CoB is good with me. Bolt Thrower *may* be a little too much for most people. I didn't like it at first, but after a few listens I finally got into it. Dark Funeral may be a good idea, but if we include older Emperor or even Darkthrone, it could be a little overkill on the black metal.

I really want to mix this up. A few death metal, thrash/speed, power/heavy, gothic/orchestraic, black, grind, folk, doom, new age (nevermore style), and I'd really like to include extreme examples of quality in each instrument. Nile for drums, Wintersorg for male vocals, Tristania for female vocals, maybe Cradle for pure range, Iron Maiden for leads, Death for rythym/lead/bass (good lord does that band kick ass) and so on. There's still stuff I don't know of. I've not heard Paradise Lost yet, and I'm not too into death/grind, so I'll take a listen to some of that stuff. Just send me an email if you wanna talk about this more in depth, guys. I don't get to check the boards that frequently, and I'll probably miss meeting times and stuff.
