Ok, so I'm new and don't really know what I want to do yet, but this site seems awesome and hopefully, when I understand everything, I'll be able to make funnier comics. Feel free to critique this (it being my only comic) for now. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

I'd recommend not changing a character into a different character for the purpose of giving them a different expression; it confused me.

Yeah, I was a bit worried that the change would be confusing. I was hoping the characters looked similar enough that the change wouldn't be too noticeable or jarring. I'll keep that in mind in the future.

Isn't that comment a bit uncalled for? I'd rather have positive criticism than be made fun of. Perhaps you could tell me WHY you don't like the comment, rather than insult me.

I hate all the sacreligious jokes on here...Quit targeting my religion, it's not like I'm targeting yours.

Sorry if that's insulting. I have nothing against people being religious, but I have admittedly come to the point that I've become insensitive about it cause there are so many extremists that bother me.

It's gotten to the point that I don't hold back as often as I should in making fun of ANY religion (I was born and raised Christian...but I just can't believe it anymore for various reasons).

I'm doing a set of comics now about the Mel Gibson movie "The Passion of the Christ" which may be insulting (though not as bad as the one above, I don't think). I won't post them here, since I understand why it would bother you.

Oh...and the "Passion of The Christ" comics are making fun of the movie and the commotion about it...not Christianity.

I don't know if that justifies them, but I really feel like I can make some funny ones...so I really want to do it. But like I said...I won't post them here.

If you want to read them, you can of course...and feel free to tell me if they're still too insulting. I'd appreciate the feedback.

Well, just because something is a new addition to christianity, doesn't mean it should be free from reproach. That's ridiculous.

The movie was created by a very fundamentalist, right wing (supposedly anti-semitic, though I don't know that for sure) Christian group and for months has only been shown to specific church groups and high end religious figures around the world. Because I find that activity both odd and just a LITTLE elitist, I can't say I agree with the situation behind the creation of the movie...or the goals of that movie from this point on.

I do agree that my third comic was overly insulting and for that, I apologize. If I could delete it, I would...but I feel I should defend my decision to make the fourth comic and criticize the movie. That's why I'm explaining.

I hope you don't cut off all contact with me simply because of an insulting comic, as you've been one of the few people nice enough to give me feedback...and I greatly appreciate that.

I suppose you're right noonie. I do doubt the motivations behind the movie, but I suppose I can't truly judge it before seeing it...but I still feel like making some comics about it, nonetheless ^_^

Not everyone posts it on the forums for all to see and then asks everyone's opinion, do they?

This one time, when I was stranded on this island with these strangers and Jesus was there. He took fish and made them into many. It was a good time.

Then we voted him off the island.

In my defense, as a newbie, I was just posting my comics to get feedback. I never intended to start a fight, so the thread doesn't really belong on "Fights Go Here."

And I do believe that all topics are fair game in comedy...I have no shame when it comes to that. I will insult MANY things quite easily. I just decided that it's better to stop posting insulting things on these boards cause I DO realize that people can be sensitive about many things and it's not fair to them to have insults flaunted in their face.

Btw, I don't see any problem with comics mocking religion. It's not like the comicmakers are out molesting altar boys or begging for a million dollars on TV or God will strike them down.

And I wouldn't say it is "conformist" to make fun of religion. It takes just as much backbone to vocalize your disapproval of something when you know it could get you in trouble.

I mean, think of how many "systems" have been fought against throughout history that were considered FINE at the time, but, in retrospect, seem terrible. I don't mean to compare Christianity to things like Nazi Germany, agricultural fundamentalism in Japan, or Soviet Russia (to name a few), but I'm saying that it's difficult to criticize something that is so widely accepted.

The REASON I apologized for my comic is because it wasn't educated criticism, so much as it was outright bashing/insulting. If I had intelligently criticized an aspect of Christianity I disagreed with (there are many) through a comic, I would not have apologized for it. Remember that Galileo was nearly executed for fighting the church's view that the sun revolved around the earth? Think of how LUDICROUS that concept seems to us now. However, if it hadn't been for people like Galileo and Copernicus who were willing to go against common thought, would we still believe it?

Of course, I don't mean to compare myself to Galileo and Copernicus either...but you get the point ^_~

All the regulars should crash this party. I don't recognize anyone except nite and Mikey.

But, uh, Smeemak, I like that you have good grammar. And your comics show some potential.

I was explaining why I apologized for my comic. I was saying I SHOULDN'T have posted it here.

The point was, you criticized me for criticizing you in a negative way, ie: non-constructively.

Then you made a non-constructive comment (comic, comment, either one is in context here) yourself. A criticism of the highly negative kind. THAT, dear SmeeMak, is the crux of it.
